Eric Schiffer: The dangers of lacking managerial skills
Eric Schiffer is a specialist when it comes to management and learning, and this is why his articles are considered as important resources by the managers. However, maybe the most important work of Eric Schiffer is the book Emotionally Changed Learning, a book that was the stepping-stone for some of the most important managers of our world. One of the most important chapters of these books refers to the dangers of weak managers, as a company that lacks managerial skills might have serious problems.
The lack of managerial culture could have the next negative effects on the activity:
- Communicational difficulties – in case the members of the teams are not able to communicate correctly, and the notions are confused, and in the case, a strategy is missing, every member of the team will act independently, resulting in various results. Indeed, the creativity of the team members must be encouraged, but as long as the team members act totally independent, there is a risk for the company.
- Management difficulties – in case the manager lacks the necessary skills to conduct the activity, or if the concepts of management are confused, the members of the team and the staff having executing tasks will not understand the demands of the leading team, conducting to the same unwanted results.
- A managerial conflict is another problem affecting the companies, especially the larger ones having a pyramidal structure. Moreover, this is one of the most dangerous scenarios, as sometimes the members of the teams might be tempted to commit illegalities. Especially when the management tasks are not defined for the financial department, some of the most experienced team members might exploit the lacks of the system in their own interest.
- Wrong decisions – of course, those decisions can’t be prevented in any company, but for an organized team, those decisions will have a small effect over the activity of the company. On the other hand, in a company where the managerial tasks are not clearly defined, the bad decisions might lead to serious problems, and sometimes even bankruptcy of the company.
In other words, Eric Schiffer states that all those problems that appear commonly within a company might lead to some serious problems. Eventually, the project will fail and the institution will lose important resources. The only solution is learning, and also a responsible HR department that is able to create a company culture and some solid principles.
